This second of two courses provides students with the opportunity to learn and apply essential mathematics skills in a business context. Through relevant business applications, students will develop problem solving skills, skill with technology in a mathematics context, flexible thinking, and an appreciation of the role mathematics plays in the world of business, including further studies in accounting, business mathematics, statistics, and microeconomics.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:

1. Perform essential mathematical operations applying the correct order of those operations.
2. Interpret common “business” language into mathematical symbols and relationships.
3. Apply essential mathematics skills in manipulating these interpreted symbols and relationships.
4. Utilize technology accurately and appropriately when solving mathematical problems and determine the correctness and reasonableness of the solution.
5. Clearly communicate orally, numerically, and graphically a solution to a business related mathematical problem and the processes used to solve it.
6. Seek out appropriate resources to support learning needs in mathematics.
7. Work individually and co-operatively to solve mathematics problems related to business applications.
